Elderly Woman Arrested by TID in Kilinochchi

On April 18, 2014, a woman in her sixties from (Kilinochchi) was arrested by the Terrorist Investigation Division (TID) – on charges of helping the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Elam (LTTE).

Upon being arrested, TID officers noted that a significant amount of money had been coming into her bank account recently. In addition, Theviyan – who was shot and killed by Sri Lankan government forces on April 10th in Nedunkerny – had been staying at this woman’s Kilinochchi home.

On April 17th, 2014 a notice dated April 7, 2014 was placed publicly in Vavuniya district. The notice covers approximately twenty square acres of land that belongs to sixteen landowners. This notice was put up at the Vavuniya Divisional Secretariat (DS) office. Fishermen Arrested in Jaffna

During the first week of April 2014 at around 10.30 a.m., five fishermen were arrested by the Terrorist Investigation Division (TID) at the Point Pedro harbor. All of those arrested are from Thumpalai in Jaffna district. When the above mentioned persons were returning from fishing, TIDofficers wearing civilian clothing were waiting by the sea side. The death of Ms. Manjula Satheeshkumar occurred on November 28, 2013 after she was admitted to Jaffna Teaching Hospital. In this case the inquest proceedings were held by an inquirer into sudden deaths and not by a Magistrate. Even though the witnesses who were acquainted with the facts were known, they were not called by the inquirer. The post-mortem inquiry was conducted by the Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) of Jaffna; he stated that the cause of death was “complication ofThyphus.” Since the husband is suspicious about the cause of death, he is calling for a fresh inquiry.
